Saturday Fun: Desperate Whispers by Jessa Ely

Dane Corbett had left Eva Falls in pursuit of dreams. When he is drawn back to the very place from which he ran, he discovers the mayor’s daughter lying in a ditch. She is not the same vibrant woman he left behind, and he wants answers.

The demons of Rachel Ryan’s past cloud her present, yet her carefully built walls of isolation weaken as she is drawn to Dane. She fights the desperate whispers telling her to flee, wanting instead to surrender her fears.

Reaching beyond shame and sorrow, they discover a love that even a deadly vendetta cannot destroy.

Rachel slammed her front door with a force that shook the windows. Trust wasn’t easy for her, yet here she swayed in Judas type waters. How could Greta keep this from her? It wasn’t some minor detail.

Ethan Corbett had destroyed her.

He took her innocence, her trust, and her sanity. As far as she knew, Dane was unaware of his brother’s vicious action. Her parents had taken great pains to bury the whole incident.

She took four steps toward her shower before her front door opened, slamming behind her. Rachel whirled around to find Dane in her house. Her face heated up, and anger coursed through her. “Get out, Dane!” Yelling was a mistake. She grimaced under the pressure of her headache as streaks of pain powered through her temples, churning her stomach.

He took two steps toward her, but she retreated.

“Stop, Rachel,” he said softly. “You’re in pain, so let me help you. Maybe you need a doctor. I’ll take you.”

“Please talk to me.”

Rachel snorted, her hands coming up to hold her head as if that was going to ward off the pain or the evil darkness. “I want to be left alone. This isn’t a good time.” The pain was excruciating. She felt so sick that she thought she might pass out.

“What’s going on, Rachel? Am I that much of a shock to you?” Dane asked, his voice biting. “I know we didn’t keep in touch, but I never expected this kind of reaction from you.”

Remorse ate at her. “Look, can’t you just—” She nearly fell to the floor as fiery pain burst through her head, but Dane grabbed her.

She gasped as he pulled her close. Anxiety overwhelmed her. The inner claws extended over her nerves, shaking out her fear as though wet laundry in need of drying. She was in his arms, and she was inexplicably scared. She knew she shouldn’t be afraid of him, so she closed her eyes against his concerned face, and she shut down, counting backward from one hundred.

“Damn it. You’re shaking, Rachel.” He led her over to the sofa and gently pulled her down onto his lap.

She surrendered to his kindness but still couldn’t open her eyes.

“Tell me what’s wrong, baby.” His hand caressed her back.

She focused on the glide of his hand, and the hated claws began to recede, leaving her strangely cocooned in an invisible net of safety. The shaking gave way to warmth. She couldn’t feel the inner stabbing pain. Dane had calmed the beast, but Rachel was afraid to open her eyes and disrupt the balance.

She sighed. “Can’t you just accept that eleven years is a long time and that people change? I’m not the same person you once knew.” His body wrapped her in a pocket of heaven, and his scent enveloped her with a unique familiarity. She couldn’t believe she was on his lap, enjoying his touch.

“I can accept anything.”

She tried to get up, but his arms tightened around her. “Dane, let me go.”

“Not yet. You’re still trembling.”

Saturday Fun: A Beautiful Chaos by Jessa Ely

Marguerite Callahan is working double time, both on the clock and with her heart. During a temporary stint as a masked pole dancer, Marguerite meets Dominic, a handsome businessman only interested in one thing. Now Marguerite must deal with a wicked temptation while hiding her biggest secret, her identity.

The moment Chaos appears on stage, Dominic is obsessed. But frustration mounts when Chaos refuses to remove her mask, and Dominic becomes distracted by a compelling new woman at the office. Now Dominic must decide, is the pure sexuality he has with Chaos enough, or is he ready for something more?

There was another reason Dominic needed to get rid of Chaos; she was fucking with his mind. Here he was falling apart over a beautiful woman who didn’t deserve his insanity.

He couldn’t help but stare intently at Marguerite. She bewitched him. After they had sat across from each other, she hadn’t ordered a simple salad; she’d gone for the deluxe hamburger with fries. If she could amaze him over her food choices, what else was there? He wished they were having this lunch somewhere private so he could…Could what? Test some physical action. Get a grip.

He leaned forward, his gaze flipping between her eyes and her mouth.

“So, tell me something no one else would know about you.”

Marguerite blanched and quickly grabbed her water bottle, giving a small nervous laugh.

“Like…I won the twenty-five meter freestyle in college?” She took a drink before setting the bottle back on the table.

Surprise lit his face.

“You’re a swimmer?” That was something he could appreciate, and his eyes traveled downward over the gracefulness of her body. The woman was the epitome of toned and sexy.

Looking down, she swirled a fry through her ketchup, shrugging.

“I was,” she said, meeting his gaze. “But I didn’t like it enough to compete nationally. I was more interested in taking the business world by storm. I think I have. Sorry, why am I telling you this?” She smiled, eating the fry loaded with ketchup.

Dominic flashed his wicked smile, his hand reaching up to swipe against her lush mouth.

“I asked. You’re more than welcome to share anything with me, sweetness,” he whispered, licking the ketchup off his finger. It excited him to see her blush, feeding the desire sizzling his veins.

Blowback by Stephanie Summers Available Now!

“People say to appreciate the life you have because things can always be worse, but how can you do that when your life is the kind everyone else compares theirs to in order to make themselves feel better? I hoped and prayed so many times for as long as I can remember for things to be different, for my life to be different, but when it finally happened, and my life changed, I didn’t know if it was a blessing or a curse.”

Jet Flanagan grew up under the shadow of his father, a kingpin determined to bend Jet to his will by any means necessary. He’s been forced to distance himself from anyone he might care about to keep them safe and that includes high school sweetheart, Evie Adams. He did what he thought was right to protect her, but when she comes back into his life by chance almost a decade later and sets off a life-changing series of events, he’ll be forced to deal with the collision of the life he knows and the life he should’ve had.

One tiny moment in time. That’s all it takes to cause a life to go to shambles or to bring another out of the darkness. Everyone has that one thing that slammed into life as they knew it and  hurdled them onto a different path, maybe even one they were never really meant to go down. The one that completely changed who they are and the person they would’ve become. Looking back on that moment can become so clear and so focused that it drags you back in time as if you’re reliving every second of it. All the joy, sorrow, anger, bitterness, happiness, smiles, tears… All of it’s there, just like it was the first time around.

The second my life changed was the day Jet Flanagan decided to speak to me for the first time. It was a simple request that very easily could’ve passed without another thought had anyone else made it, but because it came from him, my life was forever changed. For better or worse, I couldn’t say, but definitely changed.

Would she look at him differently if she knew the truth? Will her love be enough to save him from himself?

I spent the rest of the morning curled up next to him, watching him as he slept. I hadn’t changed my mind, and still needed to go, but he’d repossessed another chunk of my heart. It wasn’t going to be easy, but it had to be done. Part of me wanted to say to hell with it, give him another chance, just shed the past year or so and pretend like it never happened. But I couldn’t. Maybe in time, but I wasn’t capable of it then, and maybe never would be.

I scooted away from him inch by inch as the minutes wore one. Quick like a Band-Aid was my intention, but slow as hell was all I could muster. Finally, I reached the edge of the bed and let go of his hand. Please don’t open your eyes. I can’t bear it. Taking a deep breath, I grabbed the clothes off the floor, slipped into them, and pulled the door shut behind me.

Interview with Remy Bludworth from The Bludworth Chronicles: Origin – By Stephanie Summers

My dear author friend, Stephanie Summers recently released a book titled, The Bludworth Chronicles: Origin. If any of you are familiar with her Willow Creek Vampire Series, Remy Bludworth is the hero of her trilogy. (And if you’re not familiar, I promise you’re missing out on a fabulous set of books!) Remy is quite the vampire too. He can be surly and snarky. Charming and dashing. Dangerous and deadly. I’m a huge fan of this series!!

In The Bludworth Chronicles: Origin, we take a journey to Remy’s past. We get to see where it all began. I have had the unique honor to interview our favorite vampire and get his take on a few things happening in his world. Without further ado, please welcome Remy Bludworth…

Beth: I think the first question on everyone’s mind right now is… what’s your favorite blood type? Is one sweeter than another? 🙂

Remy: O is by far my favorite, though I don’t have much preference between positive and negative. I wouldn’t say it’s sweeter, but it’s definitely more robust than the others.

Beth: Based on your new story, The Bludworth Chronicles: Origin, if you were granted three wishes, what would you ask for?

Remy: Bloody hell… Three wishes? That’s a tough one. Hmmm…. Well, first I would wish that my father hadn’t hated me so much. Maybe things would have turned out differently if he hadn’t. Second, I’d wish for more time with my mother. I was robbed of the last several months I could have been with her before she died, and I’d do just about anything to get them back. Four hundred plus years is a long time to go without seeing your mum. And third, well… I wish I’d known all the things I do now back then, and I do mean everything. 😉

Beth: Even though you are a kick-ass vampire, what are you most afraid of?

Remy: Nothing, of course… except maybe something really bad happening to Sabine that would leave me without her for the rest of eternity. I couldn’t handle it.

Beth: What three things would you take to a desert island?

Remy: Sabine is all I really need. Maybe a human to keep around for when we need a little nip of something else. That’s all really. I could just teleport or fly out of there if I need anything else or wanted to leave.

Beth: So, Ash London from Take Me On is all the rage and I’ve heard that Ferrum is Sabine’s favorite band. There’s some publicity surrounding his story lately. What’s it like sharing the spotlight with your wife’s favorite rock star?

Remy: *Rolls his eyes* Here we go again… Everywhere I go, all I hear is Ash London this and Ash London that and oh he’s so dreamy and hot… It’s quite mind numbing if I’m being honest. I’m a vampire for fuck’s sake. Why should I care about a rock star? I have more pressing matters than who Ash London is shagging at the moment. If I ever meet him in person, I’m going to punch him right in the throat. Well, maybe. It depends on if Sabine is around. She might thrash me if I hurt him. Maybe I can just use my *ahem* gifts to convince him to go away for a bit.

Beth: What are you most proud of about your life?

Remy: That I’ve survived as long as I have. I was often accused of being weak by my father when I was human, but I don’t think you get to be as old as I am by being weak. So there’s that…
